Karauli, 20 Aug: Kailadevi Phase II of Ranthambhore Tiger Project is flourishing with Tigers. Now there are 8 Tigers although 2 Tigers are missing since long time. 

T-80 (Toofan) Male along with T-118 (Female) with 2 cubs are in Kailadevi area while T-116 (Male) along with T-117(Female) and 2 cubs are in Sarmathura area of Dhaulpur.

Famous Tiger T-72 Sultan (Male) and T-92 Sundari (Female) is missing from the area since very long the monitoring team is regularly conducting search and combing operation though. 

Meanwhile process of voluntary relocation is also going on, Kailadevi has 44 villages from which 1 village is completely relocated process of 3-4 villages is under process as per DCF Ramanand Bhakar DCF Wildlife Karauli.

Recently the tracking and monitoring team of Kailadevi got awarded with Machhli Award worth 1 lakh rupees by WWF India and Prabha Khaitan Foundation. 

Meanwhile Kailadevi is flourishing with tigers, constant and serious monitoring is the key. 

Team awarded for exemplary work includes Range officer Kailadevi Lakhan Singh, Asst. Forester Umesh Jat, Forest Guard Rahir and Rambeer Gurjar.

Machhli Award is renowned and prestigious Award on the name of Machhli the Famous Tigress of Ranthambhore given in the State for exemplary work in wildlife conservation.

Sawai Madhopur, 18 Aug: Honey Badgers are one of the most Secretive, Opportunistic, and very Elusive beasts, they are small in size but are very ferocious and hardly get scared of other animals even if it's a Tiger. 

They are nocturnal and live a very secret life, the name honey badger suggests that they like honey or it's their main food but these badgers are very opportunistic hunters, from small reptiles and amphibians to small birds and mammals everything is on the list of their menu.

This is one of the creature which is least studied, we still actually don't know much about their behavior, there is actually no exact data available about their population estimation. 

Though it is widespread across India but still to find out one of them is a very difficult task. Honeybadger or Ratel fur is black and white given by nature to them as a warning signal that I'm dangerous and ferocious keep away from me. 

They are on poacher's target also due to some superstitious believes, which have no existence and authenticity according to the science. 

You have to be very lucky if you find one during your safari, honey badgers are seen fighting or retaliating with animals more than four times their size, and winning the battle. 

They are Least Concerned as per IUCN International Union for Conservation of Nature as they are widespread species in India Southwest Asia and Africa. 

In Rajasthan, not only forests but rocky landscapes like Jawai also provides them good habitat. They have a presence in almost all Tiger Reserved of Rajasthan and also proposed Tiger Reserve like Kumbhalgarh.

Some tribal communities still track them for finding honey bee's beehive, as honey is not only a source food but is also a source of income.

It is time to conserve some of the lesser-known species before they vanish from our jungles.

Ranthambhore, 10 Aug : As soon as the name Ranthambhore is heard, the first thing that comes to anybody's mind is Tigers. Definitely, Ranthambhore is famous for its Tiger Tourism across the globe. 

But Ranthambhore is not all about Tigers, Ranthambhore is beyond Tigers, there are a variety of species that founds themselves hidden under the shadow of the Tiger.

The practice of "Tiger nahi dikha to kuch nahi dikha" (Means If Tiger is not seen, nothing is seen) is a wrong practice and not at all good, after 3 hours of Safari a guest comes out and shouts on gypsy operator and guide "Are bhiya aapne Tiger to dikhaya hi nahi," hamare to sare paise waste ho gaye" (Means "Hello Brother You didn't show us Tiger, Our whole money is wasted") this is the situation that every nature guide or gypsy or tour operator faces most of the times. 

And due to this pressure from the tourist they (the gypsy walas and guides) unfortunately had to skip everything but had to rush towards a site where they can have the chance of Tiger Sighting, this is the situation in most of the tiger reserves. Due to this pressure there is adverse effect on behavior of Tigers as well, and they comes easily under stress and could become aggressive due to this ill-practice. Unnecessary pressure of Tourism on Tigers has proven fatal for this species.

But this is not the way of observing a jungle, neither these tigers are captive, they roam free in their natural environment and habitat for food, water, marking of territory, to mate, etc. rest of the time they keep themselves hidden in their resting place, to see a tiger during a safari is purely a chance of luck.

Remember whenever you enter a forest try to watch as many things as you can watch during the tour, from langurs to peafowl, Spotted deer to wild boar, from Sambar to hare, from grey francolin to butterfly, from a basking crocodile to a roof turtle, from crested serpent eagle to brown fish owl you will see that you've enjoyed the beauty of the jungle more than anything, and your trip is worth. 

When you start observing jungle-like that, even playful jackals and foxes will attract you more than a tiger sighting.

Alarm calls of Langurs and a sudden rush of Sambar and Spotted deer herd evading a predator with barking calls is more interesting to watch, see the coordination between langurs and Sambar and Spotted Deer.  

Sloth bears are also worth watching in Ranthambhore carrying their babies on the back. There are a variety of small cat species here like Caracal, Jungle Cat, Fishing Cat, Rusty Spotted Cat if you're are lucky you can see one of them. 

When rushing towards a tiger sighting you might mis-out a hole of tree in which an Indian Scops Owl is waiting for you. 

Ask your nature guide or naturalist about what kind of vegetation is here how many species of rare plants are here, ask him how many medicinal plants are found in Ranthambhore, ask about the history of Ranthambore, ask how many vultures species are found in Ranthambhore, ask your nature guide have you seen a pangolin or a caracal? 

How many Raptors are found in Ranthambore, you might find a Shikra, to Short-toed Snake Eagle, Crested Serpent Eagle to Crested Hawk Eagle, From Oriental Honey Buzzard to Long Legged or Common Buzzard.

You may find here a variety of Owls from Indian Eagle Owl to Brown Fish Owl, From Dusky Eagle Owl to Mottled Wood Owl, from  Indian Scops owl to Spotted Owlet even a Barn Owl can be seen at Ranthambhore. 

Ask you guide how many verity of snakes are found in Ranthambhore, you'll find surprisingly that there are two verity of foxes in RTR one is a desert fox with white tail tip and second Indian fox with black tail tip. 

Wolves and Hyenas also rule this landscape along with Tigers and Leopards. See the landscape and hills fort and old and historic Shikar Audhis and Ancient Fort Walls. 

You'll find that Ranthambhore is way beyond Tigers.

Almost 7 Species of Cats in Ranthambhore


Ranthambhore, 6 Aug: Ranthambore is the only tiger reserve in Rajasthan which is having the highest number of cat species in Rajasthan.

In and around Ranthambhore there are probably or almost seven species of cats, this is the height number in any tiger reserve of Rajasthan 

There are-

1. Tiger (Panthera tigris)

2. Leopard (Panthers pardus)

3. Caracal (Caracal caracal)

4. Jungle Cat (Felis chaus)

5. Desert Cat (Felis silvestris)

6. Fishing Cat (Prionailurus viverrinus)

7. Rusty Spotted Cat  (Prionailurus rubiginosus)(the smallest cat of them all)

Ranthambhore also holds the good population of Caracal one of the most agile and elusive cats of them all.

Though each cat Including Tigers and Leopards and other cats have their unique ability to survive and are incomparable to each other. 


On 8th Aug is the international Cat Day, we may be celebrating this day with webinars and workshops but did we took any real steps to save these species and also their habitat is the real question? 

We may write books and thesis publish research papers talk on webinars for hours but are these paperwork really doing any help to these species? who needs real groundwork to conserve their habitat. 

Poaching and habitat loss are one of the major problems and are their real enemies. Though some research work and books are really nice and helpful but still there is a need for real groundwork.

This article doesn't have any scientific value but it has the power of impact which can pursue the wildlife saviors to keep on doing a good job what they are really doing on grounds.

Once Sariska has good nos. of Caracal but what is their current situation is unknown.

Wildlifer Ansar Khan from Bharatpur has captured a fishing cat from Keoladev National Park.

Rusty Spotted cats, jungle cats, and desert cats can also be spotted at very many places in Rajasthan. 

Kumbhalgarh and many places and wildlife sanctuaries of Udaipur also are good places to see cat species. 

Similarly, Rao Sahab of Deogargh Veerbhadra Singh ji has taken a very nice picture of Rusty Spotted cat.

Desert cats can be seen easily in Desert National Park.

Leopard the second largest cat is widely distributed in Rajasthan.

But there are only a few places like Ranthambhore National Park and Tiger Reserve where you can find a maximum number of wild cat species. And we may not forget these small cats under the shadow of the Tiger.

परिचय 

टाइगर (बाघ) का वैज्ञानिक नाम पेंथरा टाइगिरिस है |इसकी औसत लम्बाई 9 फूट और वजन औसतन 200-250 किग्रा होता है | इसका रंग भूरा/पीला होता है तथा पर काली धारिया होती है|फीमेल टाइगर बाघिन की औसत लम्बाई लगभग 8 फुट तथा वजन नर के मुकाबले 40-50 किग्रा कम होता है |मुख्य रूप से यह जीव आद्र जलवायु के वनों में पाया जाता है तथा दलदलीय क्षेत्र में रहना पसंद करता है |यह बहुत जयादा शर्मीला स्वभाव के होता है |इसमें  सूघने और देखने की गजब की शक्ति पाई जाती है |यह घात लगा कर शिकार करता है |इसका मुख्य आहार सांभर,चीतल,सूकर है |यह आदमखोर हो जाने पर इंसानों पर भी हमला करता है और उन्हें मारकर खा जाता है |यह अकेला रहेना ज्यादा  पसंद करता है व मादा शावको के साथ रहती है व शावको को शिकार करना सिखाती है | इनकी आँखे उभरी होने के कारण चोडे क्षेत्र को आसानी से देख सकता है |ये रात्रि में भी आसानी से देख सकता है |इसके मुह में 4 बड़े दांत होते है,2 उपर के जबड़े में और 2 नीचे के जबड़े में होते है,जिन्हें  K9 कहा जाता है तथा इनकी लम्बाई 3 इंच होती है| ये अपने शिकार गर्दन दबोच कर करते है,जिसे ये 2-3 दिन तक खाता है| बाघ अन्य बड़ी बिल्लियों में अपवाद है यह पानी बहुत अधिक पसंद करता है| यह पूरे समय अकेला रहता है केवल सहवास के समय कुछ दिन मादा के साथ रहता है| यह अपने एक निश्चित इलाके में रहता है जिसकी औसतन लम्बाई लगभग 25 कि.मी. होती है |यह अधिकांश समय अपने इलाके की सुरक्षा के लिए अपनी गंध छोड़ते हुए घूमता रहता है ये गंध में अपने मूत्र का छिडकाव करते है और अपने शरीर की किसी पेड़ से रगड़ कर अपने इलाके को चिन्हित करता है |मौका मिलने पर यह परभक्षियो (तेंदुआ,अजगर,मगरमच्छ आदि )पर हमला करता है और उन्हें मार देता है| अपनी सुरक्षा और शिकार के लिए इनके पंजो में नाखून होते है जिनकी लम्बाई 2.5 -3 इंच होती है,जो शिकार करने में इसकी सहयता करते है |ये अपने इलाके को लेकर काफी आक्रामक होते है व अन्य बाघों के साथ लड़ाई लड़ते रहते है | 




मादा बाघिन के गर्भ का समय लगभग 120 दिन का होता है ऐसे समय में मादा बाघिन किसी सुनसान और घने जंगल में चली जाती है और वाही अपने शावको को जन्म देती है| बाघिन एक बार में 3-4 शावको को जन्म देती है व 2-3 महीने तक वाही उनका पालन करती है ,जन्म से लेकर 7-8 दिनों में शावको की आँखे खुलती है तथा 2-3 महीने के बाद ये उनको अपने साथ लेकर चलती रहती है |बाघ बाघिन से पुन: सहवास करने के लिए शावको को मार देते है| शावक बाघिन के साथ 1.5 -2 वर्ष तक रहते है तथा फिर बागिन इन्हें छोड़ देती है इसी समय ये शिकार करना सीखते है |
बाघ को एक सप्ताह में खाने के लिए 60-70 किलो गोस्त की आवशयकता होती है | 



इतिहास 

बाघ भारतीय जंगलो पर बहुत समय पहले से राज करते आये है,लेकिन रजा महाराजाओ ने अपनी ताकत प्रदर्शित करने के लिए अंधाधुन्द शिकार किया | फिर अंग्रेजो ने इसकी खल की तस्करी के लिए इनका शिकार किया ,जिसके चलते जंगलो से इनकी संख्या तीव्र गति से घटने लगी और एक समय एसा आया की बाघ जंगलो में नही के बराबर हो गये | इस खूबसूरत जीव की खाल व पंजो के नाखूने के लिए अवैध शिकार किया गया और जो आज भी होता है |बाघ मुख्य रूप से एशियाई महाद्वीप में पाया जाता है जिनमे से प्रमुख देश नेपाल,बांग्लादेश,मलेशिया ,इंडोनेशिया, चीन,थाईलैंड तथा भारत प्रमुख है ,इन देशो के अलावा रूस में भी टाइगर पाए जाते है | राजा अपने शक्तिपर्दर्शन व अपने शोक के लिए इनका बहुत ज्यादा शिकार किया करते थे |




भारत सरकार ने सन 1970 में बाघों के अवैध शिकार पर रोक लगायी व 18 नवम्बर 1972 को बाघ को भारत का राष्ट्रीय पशु घोषित किया गया तथा सन 1972 में वन्य जीव संरक्षण अधिनियम बनाया गया ,जिसके अंतर्गत बाघ के शिकार पर धरा 51 के अनुसार 7 साल की कड़ी सजा व 25000 जुर्माने की राशी तय की गयी| 1973 में टाइगर प्रोजेक्ट की स्थापना की गयी |यह एक्ट भारत में सबसे पहले दूधवा टाइगर रिज़र्व में 1988 में लागु की गयी  किया गया व इसके बाद अलग अलग राज्यों में अलग अलग टाइगर रिज़र्व बनाये गये ,जिनमे इस खूबसूरत जीव के संरक्षण का कार्य किया गया,जिसके फलस्वरूप 1989 में बाघों की संख्या बढ़कर लगभग 4000 से ज्यादा हो गयी थी| बाघों के संरक्षण में सरकार के  सामने नई चुनोतिया सामने आई जो थी बढती जनसंख्या व जंगलो की अंधाधुन्द कटाई ,जिससे बाघों के अनुकूल आवास पर बहुत बूरा प्रभाव पड़ा | मानव अपने पालतू जानवरों को चराने के लिए जंगले में ले जाते वहा उनका सामना बाघ से होता बाघ जंगली जानवर व मसहरी होने के कारण  उनके पालतू मवेशियों पर हमला करते थे तथा उनका शिकार कर लेते थे इससे आक्रोशित लोग बाघों पर हमला कर उसे मार देते थे घटते जंगलो और बढ़ते मानवीय दखल के कारण फिर से बाघों की प्रजाति पर संकट मंडराने लगा |जिसके कारण सन 2007 की गणना के अनुसार देशः में बाघों की संख्या लगभग 1400 ही रहे गयी | यह बाघों की प्रजाति के लिए एक बहुत ही बूरा समय था,यह प्रजाति उस समय विलुप्ति की कगार पे आ गयी थी|बाघ परिस्तिथिकी तंत्र के पिरामिड में शीर्ष पर होते है ये परिस्तिथिकी तंत्र के संतुलन को बनाये रखता है| फिर सरकार ने इनके संरक्षण पर सही से ध्यान देना शुरू किया व संरक्षित क्षेत्र में आने वाले गावो का विस्थापन करना शुरू किया विस्थापन में टाइगर रिज़र्व के कोर जोन में पड़ने वाले गावों को जंगले से बहार निकला गया ,जिसके चलते इन्सान और बाघों में संगर्ष कम होने लगा सरकार के लगातार विस्थापन के पर्यास से  बहुत से गावो को विस्थापित किया गया जिससे जंगल के अंदर मानवीय दखल कम हुई |इसके फलस्वरूप बाघों को अनुकूल आवास मिलने लगा जिससे इनकी संख्या में कुछ व्रद्धी हुई| जिससे सन 2018 की गणना के अनुसार भारत में बाघों की संख्या लगभग 2970 के हो गयी |वर्तमान में पूरे विश्व की बाघों की आबादी का 70% हिस्सा भारत में ही निवास करता है यदि आज हमने इसका संरक्षण नही किया तो हम इस खूबसूरत जीव का संरक्षण नही किया तो हम  इसे खो देंगे व आने वाली पीढियों को इसकी तस्वीर सिर्फ किताबों व कागजो में ही नज़र आएगी आज इन्सान ने पहले ही बहुत सारी जीवो की प्रजातियों को विलुप्त कर दिया है,जो हमे किताबों में ही देखने को मिलती है ,यदि बाघ और अन्य विलुप्त होती प्रजातियों का संरक्षण नही किया तो हम इनको भी खो देंगे |जब आने वाली पीढ़िय इनकी तस्वीर देखेंगी तो वो हमसे एक ही सवाल पूछेंगी की एसा खूबसूरत जीव था तो हमने इनका संरक्षण क्यों नही किया ?और हमारे पास कोई जवाब नही होगा | 



वर्तमान में भारत में  कुल टाइगर रिज़र्व की संख्या 51 है और कुछ नये टाइगर रिज़र्व प्रस्तावित है ,जो निरंतर बाघों के संरक्षण व इनकी वृद्धि के कार्य में कर्येरत है|
