Almost 7 Species of Cats in Ranthambhore

Ranthambhore, 6 Aug: Ranthambore is the only tiger reserve in Rajasthan which is having the highest number of cat species in Rajasthan.

In and around Ranthambhore there are probably or almost seven species of cats, this is the height number in any tiger reserve of Rajasthan

There are-

1. Tiger (Panthera tigris)

2. Leopard (Panthers pardus)

3. Caracal (Caracal caracal)

4. Jungle Cat (Felis chaus)

5. Desert Cat (Felis silvestris)

6. Fishing Cat (Prionailurus viverrinus)

7. Rusty Spotted Cat  (Prionailurus rubiginosus)(the smallest cat of them all)

Ranthambhore also holds the good population of Caracal one of the most agile and elusive cats of them all.

Though each cat Including Tigers and Leopards and other cats have their unique ability to survive and are incomparable to each other.

On 8th Aug is the international Cat Day, we may be celebrating this day with webinars and workshops but did we took any real steps to save these species and also their habitat is the real question?

We may write books and thesis publish research papers talk on webinars for hours but are these paperwork really doing any help to these species? who needs real groundwork to conserve their habitat.

Poaching and habitat loss are one of the major problems and are their real enemies. Though some research work and books are really nice and helpful but still there is a need for real groundwork.

This article doesn't have any scientific value but it has the power of impact which can pursue the wildlife saviors to keep on doing a good job what they are really doing on grounds.

Once Sariska has good nos. of Caracal but what is their current situation is unknown.

Wildlifer Ansar Khan from Bharatpur has captured a fishing cat from Keoladev National Park.

Rusty Spotted cats, jungle cats, and desert cats can also be spotted at very many places in Rajasthan.

Kumbhalgarh and many places and wildlife sanctuaries of Udaipur also are good places to see cat species.

Similarly, Rao Sahab of Deogargh Veerbhadra Singh ji has taken a very nice picture of Rusty Spotted cat.

Desert cats can be seen easily in Desert National Park.

Leopard the second largest cat is widely distributed in Rajasthan.

But there are only a few places like Ranthambhore National Park and Tiger Reserve where you can find a maximum number of wild cat species. And we may not forget these small cats under the shadow of the Tiger.
