The Last Journey of T-98
Sawai Madhopur-Kota, 23 July : T-98 aka MT-3 died in MHTR under suspicious conditions exactly a year ago on 23rd July 2020.
This is the infamous story about the last journey of T-98 Tiger. T-98 was a male who was living a free and adventurous life in Ranthambhore came across to T-106 female later known as MT-2 who was shifted to Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve.
And what you call as love or infatuation in humans life it happened in their lives too. this separation couldn't kept them apart for long.
In a perilous journey unfortunately which proved his last also T-98 decided to move out of Ranthambhore in the search of T-106 which could lead him to very vulnerable situation despite of danger T-98 continued his journey. Conflict with humans was certain therefore it happened also.
He followed an unknown path walking continuously for almost 150 kilometers from Ranthambhore of Sawai Madhopur T-98 reached Mukundra's (Kota-Jhalawar) area in Feb 2019, but to much of a surprise it reached exactly where MT-2 tigress was kept in an 28 hectare enclosure.
On a morning routine patrolling monitoring team members saw pugmarks of a tiger unaware of the presence of a new Tiger in the area they informed the by then DCF that there are some pugmarks of tiger seen outside the enclosure.
Hearing this by then DCF T. Mohan Raj immediately asked the monitoring staff to check the fence of enclosure to see that whether it is broken from somewhere, suspecting that MT-1 who was in large enclosure might have broken the fence and escaped.
Thorough investigation was carried out but it was found neither the fence was broken nor MT-1 escaped.
On next day on the surveillance cameras a new Tiger appeared standing just near the enclosure of MT-2 it's identity was confirmed as T-98 (MT-3). All the things seems to be going well as per official sources at that time.
It was decided that MT-3 male will stay outside the enclosure and a female MT-4 known as lightning in Ranthambhore will be shifted outside the enclosure at MHTR to be partners with MT-3.
They kept on ruling the area for a year or so and reproduced also but unfortunately on 23rd of July 2020 MT-3 who was found limping earlier was found dead under suspicious conditions, later inside the enclosure MT-2 also died under suspicious conditions, one cub of her was rescued but it later died, another one of her missing cub was never found.
Meanwhile MT-1 disappeared from inside the enclosure who is still missing.
A camera trap pic of MT-4 female with cub circulated on social media, search and combing operation was carried out but with no success only MT-4 was found in Injured condition but her cub was not found.
Blunder after blunder MHTR was finished before it started. It was the last journey of MT-3 as well it was the darkest chapter in history of Tiger Reservers after Sariska when Sariska was wiped out from Tigers in 2004-05.
Similarly the last journey of T-98 in search of T-106 will be remembered forever.
