Listen to the sounds of the Jungle
Ranthambhore, 27 July : If you visit a forest, first and the most important thing you should do, is to keep yourself quite and try'n listen to the sounds of the jungle.
If you remain quite jungle itself speaks to you in its own language. Wether it is chirping sound of the birds or sound of the dry leaves as someone walks on it or brushing of branches even a slightest sound coming out from the bushes has its own story.
One type of such call is called Alarm call, Alarm calls are loud and clear and it's a call of a animal who is predicting danger.
If you hear a alarm call it is quite obvious that a leopard or a tiger nearby is lurking around.
Langurs sitting high on tree can sense danger from long distances, even if the danger is hiding in the bushes or approaching it's prey from far distance langurs have advantage of birds eye view, langur's alarm calls alerts other animals on ground.
If you watch a Sambhar, it raises his front foot high and than strongly taps it's hoof on the ground with a loud barking sound. This is known as foot stamping.
Similarly spotted deer also makes loud barking alarm calls.
Peafowls also make alarm calls, you can easily understand the alarm call of an Indian Peafowl as it's quite different from the normal calls.
Direction of the Wind also plays an important role through wind coming in their direction many animals sense danger and run away even if a Tiger or a Leopard hardly makes a move or sound.
Some small birds even squirrel also makes alarm calls while sensing danger. During winter season if you go around a water body migratory birds also give alarm calls a ruddy shelduck is the first one who gives alarm calls and alerts other birds a resident birds like red wattled lapwing also give alarm calls.
Sounds of forests speaks for itself, be a quite listener and observer and try and listen diffrent sounds of the jungle slowly and gradually you'll find that what message sounds of the jungle are giving to you, if you really want to watch jungle and wild animals in its true sense you must learn to listen the sounds of the jungle.
