2 Tiger Reserves with Single-Single Tigers
Sawai Madhopur, 25 July : It seems like mockery Tiger Conservation, Out of 4, Two Tiger Reserves in Rajasthan are having 1-1 tiger each.
Even zoo's and bio-parks have more tigers than there are in these two tiger reserves.
One of them is Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve spread in Kota, Bundi, Jhalawar and Chittorgarh with almost 750 square kms area; another one is Ramgarh Vishdhari spread in Bundi and Bhilwara District with almost 1000 square kms area, area includes both core and buffer.
Mukundra was declared as Tiger Reserve in 2013 and later in 2018 Tigers were introduced in it, 2 tigers were shifted from Ranthambhore one was shifted from Ramgarh.
One came by his own walking a distance of almost 150 kms. The numbers here reached 7 including cubs but unfortunately some tigers died some disappeared and only one MT-4 female remained in MHTR.
Ramgarh has been declared Tiger Reserve in 2021 with in-principle approval by competent authorities recently. One male tiger T-115 is currently present in Ramgarh.
Approval of a Tiger Reserve is very tough procedure, but the question is that if things were not appropriate or suitable for tigers, then on what grounds permissions were given is still a mistry.
In Orisa Satkosia Tiger Reserve was a living example of failed relocation the main reason here was tiger-human conflict. Reasons why MHTR failed as a Tiger Reserve is still unclear.
Problems with Ramgarh is 8 villages and as many as 4526 people currently living in it. In recently published National Newspapers it has also mentioned that there is rampant illegal mining in Ramgarh which considered as unfriendly environment for tigers.
MHTR on the other hand has 16 villages, slow voluntary relocation process is going on there in MHTR.
Other problems are poachers and people doing encroachment on forest land, some poachers were even caught in camera trap in Ramgarh and also in MHTR.
MHTR is equipped with high-tech Anti-poaching and Surveillance system, meanwhile there is no Anti-poaching and surveillance system available in Ramgarh.
And one of the major problems with both Tiger Reserves is low Prey base.
Experts belive that until there is safe and friendly environment created in any area experiments with species like Tigers should not be carried out.
Tiger Yuvraj was killed by poachers in the ravines of Mez river in Ramgarh earlier, now T-62 is missing since several months from Phalaudi-Indergarh Range.
It will be worth watching that how these tiger reserve proves themselves suitable for tigers in near future.
